“Linger”

Our love may decay,
Our thoughts may stray,
Yet the memory of love is here to stay,
For sweet is its aftertaste.

Addiction, however,
is an entirely different matter.
Never mistake it for a Cupid’s martyr.

Addiction may blind you like mystic haze,
Disguise in passionate kisses and affectionate gaze,
But it’s never love that you truly tasted,
Only your better judgment betrayed.

One could beat addiction with willpower,
But no matter how much strength one could muster,
Love simply lingers.

Even in the darkest hour,
Love never turns sour.

Only fools rush into love, they say.
Yet only fools would true love embrace.
